At Los Angeles, 1984 the Greek team took its best position up to this moment, finishing at the 8th place.

The team brought 3 wins, 2 draws (one with Italy, 8-8) and lost 2 games.

ο κος Γαρύφαλλος

Andreas Garyfallos is considered as the “Patriarch” of Greek Water Polo. His carrier started back on 1943 at Mikrolimano of Piraeus, a place that gathered all ambitious players of the era. As an athlete he won 18 Greek National titles and 6 Greek Cups with the team of Ethnicos Piraeus and he had 140 participations with the Greek National team. He has been Head Coach of the Greek National team for 15 years, leading Greece into three Olympic Games, five World championships and six European Champs. Under his leadership Greece finished 10th at Moscow 1980, Olympic Games, the best up to that moment for the Greek Water Polo. In 1993, he coached the Greek Junior team to its first bronze medal (Sopron-Hungary 1993, European Junior Championships). Andreas Garyfallos into his long lasting carrier coached also the teams of Ethnicos Piraeus, Aris Thessalonikis, Nautical Club of Corfu, Panathinaicos AC, Nautical Club of Chios and Heracles Thessalonikis.

He is currently President of Ethnicos Piraeus.

ΜΟΡΦΕΣ ΤΟΥ ΔΙΕΘΝΟΥΣ WATERPOLO

The legendary Spanish player Manuel Estiarte in 1976, at the age of 15, when Josep Brasco, Coach of the Spanish National team invited him for the first time to the Juniors National team. At the time he was player of Manresa, Barcelona.

His first games have been an under 15, International tournament in Holland and a tournament in Alghero Sardinia won by the Spanish team.
In 1977, Manule Estiarte joined the Seniors National team of Spain and competed to the Jonkoping, Sweden European Championships.
